
Originally an instrumental musician, Jan-Ake began singing barbershop in Sweden in the 1970s. After moving to Canada in 1980 and joining The Oakville Entertainers he became completely hooked on the ringing sound of barbershop.
Jan-Ake is an avid musician, voice teacher and arranger. As a certified Music Judge in the Barbershop Harmony Society, he carried out numerous judging and coaching assignments at men’s and women’s competitions across US and Canada. Jan-Ake also Certified as a Chorus Director in all major barbershop organizations: Sweet Adelines International, Barbershop Harmony Society, and Harmony, Inc.
He has published several arrangements for men’s and women’s barbershop, including charts successfully used in competition. Jan-Ake has directed several men’s and women’s barbershop choruses, taking them to several regional championships, with one of his choruses winning multiple international top 10 placements.
Jan-Ake is a sought-after coach by barbershop choruses and quartets. He received the prestigious Larry Dale Coaching Achievement award at the 2019 Region 16 Sweet Adelines convention. Jan-Ake is the current director of several choruses, including Area 5's Sugartones.
There is no question about Jan-Ake’s dedication to the art of barbershop and his thirst for life-long learning and teaching of voice in the barbershop style.
